Liver Transplant: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
The New York Times reports on a special kind of liver transplant. For a few children with acute liver failure, partial transplants can tide the patient over (with a raft of immunosuppressive drugs as well as possible complications), until the child's original liver regenerates after several years. At that point, in a lucky few patients, the anti-rejection drugs can be stopped and the body rejects the transplanted lobe. This controversial procedure is more fully described here
