Wikipedia Bites the Ankles of Academic Publishing

Read Write Web notes an intriguing confluence of the ivory towers of acacemic publishing and the the public's increasing interest in access to scientific information. RNA Biology is requesting that authors submitting articles to their journal also to submit a Wikipedia page summarizing the work. This collaboration is based on the initiative of the journal and the RNA family database (Rfam) and the the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute consortium. The journal promises that the Wikipedia article wil be submitted for peer review, but , of course, Wikipedia articles are open to editing by anyone. Only time will tell if it is publish then perish.
